Jose Rivera-Benitez is Counsel at Shain Schaffer.
Jose Rivera-Benitez, a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, has over 25 years of litigation experience, first as a Deputy Attorney General and Assistant Section Chief of the Tort Litigation Section of the New Jersey Attorney General’s Division of Law specializing in actions under the New Jersey Tort Claims Act. There, he was also lead defense counsel on railroad liability cases under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA) in matters involving New Jersey Transit. Most recently, as Assistant Deputy Rate Counsel at the New Jersey Division of Rate Counsel, he litigated telecommunications and cable television matters on behalf of the public interest before the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and the Federal Communications Commission, including mergers involving Verizon, AT&T and CenturyLink. In between those two litigation stages, he was Assistant Governor’s Counsel providing legislative guidance to the Department of State, Department of Treasury, Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Human Services.
Mr. Rivera-Benitez received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University, and his Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University.
